Sibiu City Hall buys 5 sirens to alert the population in case of disasters. “The old ones date back to 1962”

--

The Sibiu municipality wants to gradually replace all the electronic sirens used to alert the population in case of disasters or air raids. The oldest ones, still used for exercises, date from 1962.

The public alarm system of the municipality of Sibiu is composed of 34 sirens, of which 18 are new, electronic ones. The municipality intends to renew the entire “fleet”, so it purchases five more pieces. “In order to replace the old sirens dating back to 1962, it is desired to continue the action of their gradual replacement by purchasing 5 more electronic sirens. So far, 18 sirens have been purchased out of a total of 34 that make up the public alarm system of the Municipality of Sibiu”, the specification states, where the characteristics of these new alarm sirens are also mentioned.

The electronic equipment will have to ensure the broadcasting of spoken messages to the microphone or 16 pre-recorded recordings, each lasting 60 seconds, to ensure the broadcasting of live spoken messages from the siren microphone and to ensure the broadcasting of the four alarms provided for in the rules, respectively alarm aerial, aerial pre-alert, disaster alert and cessation of alarm. The company that will be contracted will have to deliver the sirens, install them on the buildings, put them into operation and test them. The sirens will have a 24-month warranty and will be delivered within 60 days of signing the contract.

We remind you of the main signals that the population must know:

  • Disaster alarm – 5 sounds of 16 seconds each, with a 10-second break between them;
  • Air pre-alarm – 3 sounds of 32 seconds each, with a 12 second break between them;
  • Airborne alarm – 15 sounds of 4 seconds each, with a 4 second pause between them;
  • Cessation of the alarm – a continuous sound, of the same intensity, lasting 2 minutes.
