A cloud of Saharan dust crossed Romania again. It deposited on cars and stands. The phenomenon is more persistent in areas where it has rained. According to ANM, the particle-laden air mass will persist in the first part of today and then move to the northeast. The dust cloud from the Sahara also blanketed much of Greece in one of the worst episodes of its kind, officials said.

Since the early hours of the morning, residents of several areas of the country observed a layer of fine dust, in some places reddish, on cars and on the streets.
Dust settled in areas where it rained. In Bucharest, 14 liters per square meter also fell.
Although Romania has faced such episodes before, this time the air circulation favored the advance of the air mass with Saharan dust particles, directly towards the southeast of Europe.
“The concentrations were higher this time, a bit more Saharan dust was carried, right towards our country. Last time it bypassed us like this, it was more in the west and reached us, but now it came directly from the south”. said Iris Răducanu, ANM meteorologist.
According to ANM, the particle-laden air mass will move to the northeast starting this afternoon.
Greece was also affected by the phenomenon. A yellow-orange haze limited visibility and reduced air quality in several regions, including the capital. The Acropolis of Athens was no longer visible because of the dust, and the cloud reached as far north as Thessaloniki.
Greeks with respiratory conditions have been urged to limit their time outdoors, wear protective masks and avoid exercise until the dust clouds clear.
