CASE OF BOTULISM IN PRAHOVA

--

A man from Urlati was confirmed with botulism, after allegedly consuming two cans of fish. Initially, he arrived at the city hospital with vomiting, but later neurological symptoms also appeared. He was transferred to the Ploiești County Hospital, where doctors confirmed the diagnosis. The treatment against botulism was not identified anywhere on the territory of our country, so it was brought from an infectious diseases hospital in Chisinau. At this moment, the authorities in Prahova could not issue a food alert because the patient cannot explain exactly what kind of canned food he consumed, nor since when he had it at home.

The 51-year-old patient, from Urlati, told the doctors that on April 9 he had consumed two cans of fish. Just one day away, he started to feel sick, with vomiting and diarrhea. He immediately went to the city hospital where he received symptomatic treatment.

So the doctors started a fight against the clock, to save the life of the patient, who was in serious condition.

With difficulty, the doctors at the Ploiesti County Hospital managed to find doses of botulinum antitoxin.

The patient will be monitored 24 hours a day, until his state of health improves completely.
