The next action of the Romanian national team will take place at the beginning of June, just a few days before the start of EURO 2024 (June 14). There will be two friendlies, with Bulgaria and Liechtenstein. FRF announced the rescheduling of the latter.

Originally scheduled for June 8, the friendly against Liechtenstein will take place a day earlier on the 7th, according to an announcement made by the FRF.

Romania – Liechtenstein, scheduled for June 7

After 1-1 with Northern Ireland and 2-3 against Colombia, Edi Iordănescu’s “tricolors” will have two more test matches, just before leaving for Germany.

The first match, against Bulgaria, will be played on June 4, 2024, at the Steaua stadium, while the last test, against the modest Liechtenstein national team, was scheduled for the 8th. Finally, the match will be played a day earlier, also in “Ghencea”.

“Following the dialogue with the representatives of the Football Federation of Liechtenstein, the match between the two teams was brought forward by a day. Thus, the program of the tricolors before leaving for Germany for EURO 2024 is this:

  • June 4: Romania – Bulgarialive on Prima TV & RRA
  • June 7: Romania – Liechtensteinlive on Antena 1 & RRA”, says FRF.

At the moment, the times at which the two friendly games will take place, the last before the European Championship in Germany, are not known.

Bulgaria is 83rd in the FIFA rankings, while Liechtenstein is only 203rd.

There are less than three months until Romania’s debut at EURO 2024, and some of the players who will be in Germany have a big problem: they don’t play consistently for club teams. And the selector Edward Iordănescu hopes that many of them will start playing.

“We tried, we ran players, we changed and it was risky. We have positions where we are still vulnerable, we have to try to see what solutions we can prepare for the EURO. In the next period, the big challenge for the boys is to establish themselves at the club. You can’t hold your own against top level players and teams playing match after match if you can’t run, fight and win duels.

There are also exceptions. Ianis was an exception, he came in very well in Bucharest and excellent now, he brought personality to the game, assumed responsibilities and scored. We have few players at a very good level. Compared to how it was when I took over the team, yes, we made some steps. But I’m not happy that they went to better, but play less. When they have minutes, we all have other perspectives”, said Edi Iordănescu after the match with Colombia.
