The police officers of the Animal Protection Bureau of the Suceava County Police Inspectorate took measures against an individual accused of animal cruelty. A 31-year-old man was detained.

According to the authorities, the incident took place in August 2022, when the young man in question brutally assaulted a sheep.

The man is accused of intentionally hitting the sheep, knocking it to the ground and then punching and kicking it repeatedly.

The 31-year-old, from Burla commune, Suceava county, is accused of committing the crime of “intentionally injuring animals”.

“On April 1, 2024, following the probationary period administered by the police officers of the Animal Protection Bureau of the IPJ Suceava, the 31-year-old man was ordered to be detained for a period of 24 hours, for committing the crime of intentionally injuring animals , being introduced into the Detention and Preventive Arrest Center within the IPJ Suceava”, specified the representatives of the IPJ Suceava.

The investigations in this file take place under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Rădăuţi Court.

The police remind that, in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 205/2006 republished on the protection of animals, ill-treatment or aggression against animals is punishable including imprisonment.

Intentionally injuring animals constitutes a crime and is punishable by imprisonment from one to five years or a fine.
