Romania, through the eyes of a tourist from the USA who arrived on a cruise ship: “I knew absolutely nothing about this country”

The cruise season has officially opened at the seaside! And the first river ship that anchored in Constanţa Port comes from Vienna and brought with it almost 200 tourists, most of them from the land of all possibilities. Even though Romania entered Schengen by air and sea, this ship that crossed the Danube to our country was subject to the same control conditions, because the river is considered terrestrial space.

This is what Viking Rinda looks like, the first river cruise ship this season that stopped at the shore of the Black Sea in Romania. And the tourists had something to see.

Adrian Zamosteanu, program director: We started from Vienna and came all the way to Constanta. I passed through Slovakia, Hungary. I passed through Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. The cruise we’re doing is Capital Sophisten Europe, so we’ve been to all the capitals.

Constantin Şoimu, agent: If we refer to river passenger ships, I can tell you that their number has increased, not spectacularly, but their number has increased. It’s the first ship in a series of 34 this year, two or three more than last year.

180 passengers boarded this cruise ship, most of them from the United States of America, and the trip was an unprecedented one. Not only did they cross seas and countries with the help of this “floating city”, beautifully colored and lit, but they could also enjoy a spectacular landscape.

Reporter-passenger: – It’s a great experience. I’ve never done that before, so that was nice. – Is it the first time in Romania?

– Yes, for the first time. Beautiful, so much to see. It’s one of those countries that you have to go back to because there’s not enough time to see everything.

Reporter-passenger: What do you know about Romania?

– Absolutely nothing before I got here. So I sailed the Delta. It was very nice to see the birds.

Even though Romania officially entered the Schengen area by air and sea, naval transport, i.e. on the Danube, remained the same.

Adrian Zamosteanu, program director: The checks were done as before, as usual.

Constantin Şoimu, agent: On the other hand, the maritime ships, that is, the big ones, which we ventured many years ago, unfortunately no longer come and that only because of the war in the Black Sea.

Because of the war in Ukraine, in the last two years, maritime ships have stopped anchoring in our country. The Viking Rinda cruise was built in 2013, incorporates 95 cabins and has a capacity of over 200 people.
