The images published by a local website show inscriptions in the Cyrillic alphabet on the metal remains of the drone that fell on Thursday evening in the Big Island of Brăila, 8 kilometers from Brăila and 23 kilometers inside the Romanian territory.

Thus, the message “Do not touch” can be distinguished.

We are witnessing the incident with the largest penetration into Romanian territory since the beginning of the war started by Russia in Ukraine, on February 24, 2022. After the media broke the news to the public, the authorities also confirmed that they were conducting search operations and that they had found presumed remains by drone.

Before the crash, the drone, whose origin is still being evaluated, penetrated 23 kilometers into Romanian territory. The crater formed has a diameter of approximately 4 meters, being visible from the air, in the area of ​​the Filipoiu farm. The place where the drone crashed is located 8 km from the ferry crossing from the Brăila municipality towards the Big Island of Brăila. Forces from the Army, SRI, Police, Gendarmerie and ISU are being mobilized in the Big Island of Brăilei and have isolated the area.

MApN still does not know exactly what fell near Brăila

MApN reported on Friday that in Brăila they had found “elements of a possible drone” that would have fallen on Romanian territory:

• “In the evening of March 28, 2024, fragments were identified that seem to come from an aerial device (drone) on an agricultural land in Insula Mare a Brăilei”, MApN said in a press release sent on Friday, 29 March, 10:32 a.m., with the title “Elements of a possible drone, identified in the Big Island of Braila”.
• “MApN, together with specialized structures within the national defense system, is currently investigating the incident on site according to specific operational procedures.”

No less than 3 Russian drones fell in Romania in 10 days in September 2023, the last one being discovered on September 13 between the villages of Nufăru and Victoria in Nufăru commune, Tulcea county.

The first two cases of drone remains found on Romanian territory were near the town of Plauru, located practically on the border, but Nufăru and Victoria are much further from the border.

In none of the three previous cases, Romania’s radars did not detect anything.
