“I asked left and right, in almost the entire commune, and I found out that we, in Jurilovca, Sălcioara and Vișina, do not fry carp in a specific way. But if the people at the Ramada hotel in Sibiu have found a recipe for fried carp , we can only be happy“, writes Eugen Ion, the mayor of Jurilovca.
The mayor says that he would also recommend the Jurilovca Lipovci borscht, a dish that has a place on the list of any gourmet who loves fish dishes.
“Seeing fried carp like at Jurilovca on the menu of a 4-star hotel, anyone could think it’s an exotic destination. We have fairytale landscapes, yes, but we are not really exotic, especially since it can be easily reached by car. So if you want to try dishes cooked like at Jurilovca, we welcome you anytime“, adds Eugen Ion.
In recent years, Jurilovca has become a tourist destination in itself, a place where tourists can learn about the culture and customs of the Lipovi Russian community, taste the traditional cuisine based especially on fish dishes, visit various tourist attractions located in the continental area of Tulcea county or take water trips in the Danube Delta.
The transformation of the commune from a place of transit into a tourist destination was done gradually, starting from the needs of the locals to live at the level of the current times.
In the last ten years, the local administration managed to attract government and European investments worth over 168 million lei. With this money, as well as with the money from the local budget, the town hall paved the streets, connected the households to modern water supply and sewage networks, rehabilitated and equipped the educational units to European standards.
