Unpleasant incident on the runway of the “Stefan cel Mare” International Airport in Suceava. Two Wizz Air planes collided, and both flights were delayed. These are the flights to Dortmund (Germany) and Bergamo (Italy). The plane from Bergamo was parked, while the flight to Dortmund was already on its way to take off.
“Wizz Air confirms that its flight W6 4692, from Suceava to Dortmund, on March 14, 2023, while taxiing out of the parking position, collided with the right horizontal stabilizer of another Wizz aircraft, which was parked in an adjacent position, with no passengers on board,” Wizz Air reported on Tuesday.
The company’s representatives stated that all the passengers of the Suceava-Dortmund flight were unharmed and disembarked safely.
“Wizz Air provides a replacement aircraft for the affected flight and will transport the passengers to their destination today. Wizz Air apologizes to the affected passengers and assures all customers that the safety and security of its passengers, crew and aircraft remain the airline’s top priority,” the company said.
The management of Suceava Airport reported that the incident consisted of the slight impact of two aircraft of the Wizz Air company.
“The passengers who were going to fly to Dortmund were disembarked safely, only material damage was recorded”, said the representatives of Suceava Airport, in a press statement.
There were 174 passengers on the Suceava-Dortmund plane, who are currently in the airport terminal.
Most likely, Wizz Air will provide another aircraft, and the flight to Dortmund will take place during the evening.
According to local media, the wing of a Wizz Air aircraft that was going to leave from Suceava to Dortmund hit the back of another aircraft of the same company on Tuesday.
As a result of the incident, there were no victims, but the passengers on the flight to Dortmund were taken off the aircraft.
