A mother in England went through difficult times after being diagnosed with cancer, but the nightmare came only ten days later when her daughter received the same diagnosis. Two years later, they decided to tell their story, drawing attention to the importance of research in the field.

In 2022, Catherine Tudor was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer. Ten days later, her daughter Rihannon found out she had the same disease, but at a more advanced stage.

“When my mother told me that she was diagnosed with cancer, I was sad. I remember thinking to myself “she must have been unlucky, but I’ll be fine!,” she told People , adding: “What would have been the odds that we would both be diagnosed with the same disease a week apart?”

Rihannon, who lives in Cheltenham, England, however, not only received the same diagnosis, but the disease was at a more advanced stage. Specifically, doctors discovered more than 20 tumors in her liver and lungs, for which she had to immediately begin chemotherapy sessions and other treatments in an attempt to stop the spread of the cancer.

Two years later, Rihanna continues her cancer treatment and her mother has been declared cured: “I experienced an amalgam of emotions, but I am very strong and positive“, the young woman also stated, in an interview with the BBC, confessing that this positive thinking helped her to overcome this period.

“When you think that you can fight the disease, that you can get through it, the body responds in the same way. And my body, thank God, has been responding positively for more than two years, I’ve had numerous tumors shrink in size,” the woman said.

Even though she is very optimistic, she described the chemotherapy, radiation and surgery as brutal. That is precisely why he hopes that scientists will discover other, gentler treatments.

“Research helps me to hope, to move forward. I want specialists to discover other therapies to help cancer patients. It’s vital,” she also said, according to the cited source.
