“Wednesday”, season 2, will no longer be filmed in Romania

“Wednesday” is moving production from Romania to Ireland for season 2, and filming will begin in April this year, Variety has confirmed. The first season of the series was filmed at Cantacuzino Bușteni Palace, Sinaia Station and Buftea studios.

The eight-episode first season, which originally debuted in November 2022 on Netflix, was filmed in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. After breaking several records for streaming series, including the most hours watched for a series in English in its first week with over 341 million hours, the horror-comedy series was renewed for Season 2 in January.

“Wednesday” stars Jenna Ortega as the title character from “The Addams Family,” who enrolls at Nevermore Academy. According to the official description of the first season, Wednesday “tries to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a series of monstrous murders that have terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that involved her parents 25 years ago—all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”

Along with Jenna Ortega, the Season 1 cast also included Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J. Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Riki Lindhome and Christina Ricci. Catherine Zeta-Jones also appeared as Morticia Addams, alongside Luis Guzmán as Gomez and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. Also, the Romanian actor George Burcea played the role of Lurch, the butler of the Addams family, and Victor Dorobanțu masterfully played the role of The Thing, the mysterious “hand” from the very popular series.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar developed the series and are executive producers. Tim Burton directed the first four episodes and also executive produced the first season, alongside Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Andrew Mittman of 1.21 Entertainment, Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper and Kevin Lafferty. MGM Television is the production studio.

One of the show’s producers recalled how the first season ended, when Wednesday, the character played by actress Jenna Ortega, receives an anonymous message on her phone and indicates that Hyde’s threat is still real, as a hint for season 2.

Jenna Ortega said Wednesday, the character she plays, “will stick to her guns and not try to please anyone.” “Over the last few weeks, I have been hunted, haunted and imitated millions of times on the internet. It was real torture. Thank you,” says Wednesday.
