“Moscow will almost certainly push for a modern demilitarized zone from the Dnieper River to NATO’s eastern border to prevent the re-emergence of a hostile military force in western Ukraine. It is not known whether the Poles, Hungarians or Belarusians will decide to involve Moscow in negotiations over Ukrainian territory with historical ties to their countries, but the inevitable collapse of the Ukrainian state and military will undoubtedly be at the heart of such discussionsMcGregor wrote.
