Russia threatens to hit British targets both in Ukraine and in other countries

Russia warned Britain on Monday that if Ukraine uses British weapons to attack Russian territory, as British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has suggested, Moscow could retaliate with attacks on British military installations and equipment located both in Ukraine and in other countries, reports the Reuters and EFE agencies.

The British ambassador in Moscow, Nigel Casey, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday following the statements of Cameron, who said last week during a visit to Kiev that Ukraine has the right to use weapons from British military aid to hit targets on Russian territory .

According to a statement issued by the Russian MFA, the British ambassador “was warned that the response to Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory with British weapons can be any British military installation and equipment on the territory of Ukraine or abroad.”

“Russia sees in Cameron’s statements a confirmation of the serious escalation and the growing involvement of London in the military actions on the part of Kiev”, the same press release of the Russian MFA states.

Also, the latter considers the “belligerent and provocative” statements of the British foreign minister as a “de facto recognition of his country’s involvement as a party to the conflict”. Therefore, the Russian MFA also mentions, the British ambassador was warned about the “catastrophic consequences of these hostile steps by London”.
