In the communiqué, NATO lists these countries affected by the “hostile activities” of the Russian state: the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the United Kingdom.

The alliance states that these hostile actions include acts of sabotage, acts of violence, cyber activities, electronic disruptions, disinformation campaigns and other hybrid activities.

“These incidents are part of a campaign to intensify the activities that Russia continues to carry out in the Euro-Atlantic area, including on the territory of the Alliance and through intermediaries”, says NATO.

European security services have revealed in recent weeks a series of activities they have called Russian espionage, including an espionage network behind an online news outlet, the Voice of Europe, discovered by Czech investigators, which also led authorities to from other states to carry out searches.

Also, the European press reported that a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party allegedly received money from the pro-Russian media site, an accusation that the politician denied.

In the statement published on Thursday, NATO members pledged to “continue to increase” their resilience in the face of such attacks and to apply the necessary tools to “counter and challenge Russian hybrid actions”.

“Russia’s actions will not deter the Allies from continuing to support Ukraine,” NATO assures at the end of the communique.

North Atlantic Council Statement on Russia’s Recent Hybrid Activities:

“NATO Allies are deeply concerned about recent malign activities on Allied soil, including those that have led to the investigation and indictment of several individuals in connection with hostile state activities, affecting the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the United Kingdom .

These incidents are part of a campaign to intensify the activities that Russia continues to carry out throughout the Euro-Atlantic area, including on the territory of the Alliance and through intermediaries. These include sabotage, acts of violence, cyber and electronic interference, disinformation campaigns and other hybrid operations.

NATO Allies express deep concern about Russia’s hybrid actions, which constitute a threat to Allies’ security.

We support and stand in solidarity with the affected allies. We will act individually and collectively to address these actions and will continue to coordinate closely. We will continue to build our resilience and apply and improve the tools we have to counter and challenge Russian hybrid actions and ensure that the Alliance and allies are prepared to deter and defend against hybrid actions or attacks.

We condemn Russia’s behavior and call on Russia to respect its international obligations, just as the Allies do theirs. Russia’s actions will not deter the Allies from continuing to support Ukraine.”
