Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski hopes that German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz will change his mind and Berlin will deliver Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine after the US decided to supply Kiev with long-range missiles, reports dpa, according to Agerpres.

“I hope the chancellor feels encouraged by the events of the last few days,” said Sikorski in an interview given to the Sunday edition of the Bild publication.

He described the delivery of American ATACMS missiles to Ukraine as a “reaction to Russian escalation”, an escalation to which Germany should also respond.

And the United States hopes that its recent decision to send long-range missiles to Ukraine will encourage Germany to do the same. Before the US, France and the UK supplied Ukraine with long-range Scalp and Storm Shadow missiles, which can reach a distance of up to about 250 kilometers.

“Regarding the Taurus … it’s a decision for Germany,” a senior US defense official said on Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity, when asked about a possible German delivery of Taurus missiles. with long range of action.

“But of course, with the US supply of ATACMS, as well as the previous decisions by the UK and France to supply long-range missiles, we hope that will play a role,” he said.

Ukraine has been asking Germany for months to supply it with Taurus cruise missiles, which can reach up to 500 km, to counter Russia’s offensive.

So far, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rejected the idea of delivering Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. He fears that Germany could be drawn into the war if it supplies Kiev with this type of missile, with a range of 500 kilometers.
