Nikolai Patrushev is the second most powerful man in Moscow, practically Putin’s right-hand man. Currently the head of Russia’s Security Council, Patrushev is a former colleague of the current president since the two served in the KGB in Leningrad in the 1970s and is now the Kremlin leader’s confidant.
He claims, in his false propaganda, that when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts all life in the United States will be annihilated, and Siberia will become one of the safest places on Earth, but also a target for the Western “Anglo-Saxon elites” to capture the region from Russia.
Patrushev is Putin’s top adviser, an army general and former director of Russia’s FSB Secret Service, but is also the de facto master of the country’s other intelligence services, according to The Atlantic.
Among Kremlin courtiers, he alone appears to be authorized to speak for Putin on strategic issues, including nuclear weapons, the war in Ukraine and Russia’s view of the US, Europe and NATO.

Following Putin’s lead, many top Russian bureaucrats are competing to conjure up monstrous conspiracy theories. Yet even in this riotous crowd, Patrushev stands out for the ridiculousness and intensity of his anti-Western—and especially anti-American—animosity.
The hyperbole of his comments would make the Soviet propagandists of his youth blush: his prominence is a reminder that if Putin were to lose power tomorrow, his potential successors could be more belligerent and expansionist, not less.
