08:55 A Russian drone strike badly damaged a hotel in the southern Ukrainian city of Nikoalev, the region’s governor said, and Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported that the hotel was hosting English-speaking mercenaries fighting in Ukraine.

“The enemy attacked the city with a ‘Shahed-131/136’ type unmanned aerial vehicle,” Nikolaev Governor Vitali Kim said on Telegram.

“As a result, a hotel building was badly damaged, a fire broke out, which was quickly extinguished … There are no casualties.”

Kim and Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the Russian attack also damaged the windows of a nearby hotel and damaged its heating infrastructure.

According to Russian fighters in the region quoted by the Russian news agency Ria Novosti, Moscow’s forces struck a shipbuilding factory and a hotel in Nikoalev where English-speaking mercenaries fighting in Ukraine were staying.

Reuters said it could not independently verify this information.

The Ukrainian air force also said on its Telegram account on Sunday, without giving details, that it had destroyed a drone launched by Russia over Nikolaev.

The air force said four other drones launched by Russia were destroyed over the region around the capital Kyiv, the central regions of Vinnytsia and Kirovohrad, as well as over the western region of Khmelnytskyi.
