A massive tree fell on one of Kuala Lumpur’s busiest boulevards on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring two others. As a result of the incident, monorail services were disrupted and more than 10 vehicles were damaged, the authorities said, according to Reuters.
According to video recordings and images published on social networks, the uprooted tree fell over Jalan Sultan Ismail boulevard during a period of intense traffic, at a distance of about one kilometer from the emblematic Petronas Twin Towers, informs Agerpres.
The lifeless body of a 47-year-old man was removed from the scene of the incident, the police and the fire department said, and 17 vehicles were damaged as a result of the incident.
A 26-year-old ride-sharing driver and a 72-year-old Swedish woman, believed to be his customer, were injured and taken to hospital for treatment, an official from within the police.
Part of the tree’s branches fell over an elevated monorail road, parallel to that street, according to the images published on social networks. Monorail services suffered delays following the incident, the train operator said in a notice.
