The Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, Zsolt Semjen, said that the official Budapest will not hand over Ukrainian refugees of military age to Kiev, atv.hu writes.

“The Ukrainians want us to hand them over (the men who fled from Ukraine – no) so that they can be sent to war, to the front where people are dying. So those who fled to us from Ukraine are all safe and not we will extradite,” said the Hungarian deputy prime minister.

Semjen’s statement contrasts sharply with the Hungarian government’s anti-immigration agenda. He did not hesitate to take radical measures, such as the fence erected on the border with Serbia to stop immigrants, refugees who, at the top, were still fleeing the war.

Not to mention that, due to its restrictive policies, Hungary has the lowest rate of absorption of Ukrainian refugees in the EU, if we refer to the population – only 35 thousand Ukrainians decided to stay in Hungary. By comparison, at a similar population, the Czech Republic is home to 500 thousand Ukrainians.

“Hungary will not extradite refugees to Ukraine. We do not investigate whether, according to the Ukrainians, a person is conscripted or not. On the basis of basic humanity, we will not allow them to be sent to death,” said Hungary’s deputy prime minister.

Semjen noted that in the case of Transcarpathian Hungarians, this is a “natural national duty” of Budapest, and in the case of Ukrainians, it is a humanitarian and legal gesture, as no one whose life will be in danger is subject to extradition.
