Craiova University defeated the FCSB champion, at home, score 2-0, in the 8th stage of the Superliga play-off. The guests missed a penalty through Darius Olaru.
Olteni opened the scoring quickly in Craiova, as early as the 4th minute. Baiaram executed a corner, Jovan Markovic sent it to the crossbar, and Raul Silva took the ball back to him in the net.
Anzor Mekvabishvili tested Târnovanu with a shot from outside the box, in the 28th minute, and the Bucharesters missed their biggest opportunity in the 44th minute, when Baba Alhassan entered the box and passed it to Miculescu, who shot the ball wide. The guests also missed a great opportunity in the 55th minute, through Octavian Popescu, then Olaru shot and Laurentiu Popescu rejected. The hosts returned to the attack and Andrei Ivan managed to double the advantage of Gâlcă’s team in the 70th minute.
After five minutes, FCSB received a penalty after VAR consultation, for a foul by Houri on Olaru and the same Olaru missed the penalty kick in the 77th minute, sending it into the crossbar. Then Vlădoiu and Alexandru Băluţă missed, and Alexandru Mitriţă held the ball too much in the Bucharest box and could not score in the 90th minute.
Ivan and Bana could not beat Târnovanu in the 90+4th minute, and the match finally ended with the victory of Craiova, score 2-0.
FCSB lost the first match of this play-off and is already the champion, leading the championship with 49 points. Craiova University is in second place, with 40 points.

Universitatea Craiova comes after the 2-1 victory against Rapid, from the last stage, and is in 3rd place in the Superliga, 3 points away from CFR Cluj, the occupier of the 2nd place. Olteni badly need a victory to return to the second position , which secures a place in the Conference League preliminaries.
On the other hand, FCSB comes after the victory, score 2-1, against Farului, a match in which the Bucharesters became mathematically the champions of Romania. “Roş-albaştrii” is playing a record match with U. Craiova, which they managed to beat every time they met this season.
