Among the 94 competitors from the 8th grade, at the national stage of the Mathematics Olympiad in Huși, Robert Isepciuc from the National College in Iași and Gabriel Vergelea from the Spectrum Constanța Secondary School accumulated the highest number of points, 24 each. Both received the first prize from the Ministry of Education and the gold medal offered by the Romanian Mathematical Society, according to TVR Iași.

Robert Isepciuc and Gabriel Vergelea are passionate about mathematics, but also about physics.

“When I’m not doing maths, I have a passion for physics and I’d like to use that to find out what’s going to happen to the world on the scientific side,” said Robert.

Gabriel believes that “colleagues should accept mathematics as solving the universe, because mathematics and physics define the universe and everything that lives in it.

The interventions of the two Olympians at TVR Iași:

Robert Isepciuc: It’s the first time I won first prize. I participated in the Olympiad in the 6th grade and at that time I took eighth place. Then next year I have third prize and I’m currently here with first prize.

When I’m not doing math, I don’t have that much time to dream, but I have a passion for physics, and I’d like to use physics to be able to figure out what’s going to happen to the world, on the scientific side.

I succeeded through perseverance and hard work. Since kindergarten I loved numbers, I always liked to be better and better and I tried to do that and that’s why I kept working. I never gave up.

I would like to go to space or better, to build, design rockets or other ships. I am passionate about aeronautics and it seems like a good career idea for the future.

Gabriel Vergelea: I hope that my path will have to do with mathematics. That’s why I’m preparing and hoping to get a job related to mathematics. Maybe I’ll also study computer science a bit, because it’s useful.

Mathematics for me a passion and colleagues should receive mathematics as solving the universe, because mathematics and physics define the universe and everything that lives in it.

I don’t see myself in this generation traveling to other galaxies, but society will be very different in the coming years.
