Ferrari is not giving up on V12 engines. New model with a price of around 400,000 euros

--

Italian luxury sports car brand Ferrari is not only maintaining the tradition of V12 engines, but decided to state it clearly in the name of its next vehicle. Marketed in coupe and spider variants, the Ferrari 12 Cilindri will cost 400,000 euros.

Despite the fact that they are in the process of transitioning to hybrid propulsion systems, the Italians at Ferrari ostentatiously show their attraction to classic, large engines with “V” architecture. The newest model of the brand, just presented, is equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces 818 HP and has a maximum torque of 678 Nm. Exactly the values existing on the model 812 Competizione that is ending its career, going out of production.

Beyond the “arrogance” of equipping a car of the year 2024 with such an engine, normally aspirated, the Italians decided to push things to the extreme by naming the new car, 12 Cylinders.

Declined in two versions – coupe and spider -, the Ferrari 12 Cylinder costs at least 395,000 euros (coupe version) and at least 435,000 euros (roadster version). The first deliveries in Europe will take place in the fourth quarter of this year, while in the US the car will arrive in early 2025.

Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s head of marketing, told journalists at the launch event in Maranello that development of the 12-cylinder model began in 2020, when the entire auto industry seemed totally absorbed in the transition to all-electric cars.

“It was an expensive and risky choice,” Galliera said of the decision to use a classic, large-displacement V12 powertrain. “We like to think that there is still enough room for technical solutions looking both to the past and to the future,” the Ferrari official explained.

Both the 12-cylinder coupe and roadster sit in the middle of Ferrari’s lineup, sitting between the likes of the Roma or Portofino and the 296 GTB or SF90 Stradale, Galliera noted before saying he expects the order book to close shortly, with approximately 10% – 15% of the units allocated to new Ferrari customers and the rest to current owners of the brand’s models.
