Party-loving Romanians went to the beach on the occasion of the May 1st and Easter mini-holidays. They didn’t have much luck, because of the weather. I can’t really stay at the beach because of the cold and the wind, I can’t go in the water, but at least I can spend time on the terraces.

Galloping inflation is strongly felt in the most expensive resort in Romania. Even soup is no longer available. In Mamaia Nord, the “luxury area”, tourists spend between 40 and 50 lei for a soup. Pizza starts at 50 lei and can reach 100 lei. 100 grams of roe reaches some restaurants up to 65 lei.

Even simple drinks are not accessible. A half-liter bottle of water costs 15 lei. A fresh orange costs 30 lei.

A cream of potato soup with bacon or a cream of mushroom soup costs around 32 lei, and the French boilbaisse soup reaches 70 lei.

Bad luck for the Romanians who went to the sea on May 1

Thursday afternoon, in Mamaia, around 2:00 p.m., it was 14 degrees Celsius, cloudy sky and drizzle in places. In Bucharest it was 19 degrees Celsius, in Timișoara 23 degrees Celsius, and in Bacău 24 degrees Celsius.

In the evening, in Mamaia, temperatures drop to 12 degrees Celsius, autumn weather.
