Over the past three months, several members and branch leaders, as well as candidates, have decided to leave the extremist AUR party in a series of eight episodes since February. Most of these departures were marked by conflicts and scandals, thus reflecting the policy promoted by the leader of the party, George Simion, characterized by attacks and harsh words towards former members.

In mid-April, the AUR announced its intention to initiate lie detector tests for the leaders of county organizations, in order to perform an “integrity test” and to reduce the “risk of betrayal”, according to the statements of the party’s first vice-president, Marius Lulea , in an interview granted to G4Media. However, the test results will not be made public because, according to Lulea, “they are not relevant and do not serve the interests of the organization.”

In a reaction on Tik Tok, George Simion says:

“GOLD is falling apart, GOLD is falling apart… Well, *** (censored statements) How long have you been saying that GOLD is falling apart? Has GOLD fallen apart? Get to work… keep trying, keep… (censored statements), you still want to. No… no GOLD falling apart. We are your worst nightmare and we are coming for you!”
The most recent rupture took place on May 1, when the candidate for the Buzău City Hall, Elena Năstăsoiu, left the formation together with half of the candidates on the list of the Local Council calling the party “the biggest poison for the Romanian electorate”. Năstăsoiu accuses the party leadership of “putting aside loyal people” who are replaced by “those from other parties and the financially powerful”, according to News.ro.

“An Illusion Run by a Garbage”

Just three days ago, Mihail Dojană, the leader of AUR in Sector 1, and Valentin Florea, the former candidate of the extremist party AUR for the City Hall of Sector 6, renounced their affiliation with the party, expressing disillusionment with what they described as ” an illusion run by a Garbage’ and ‘devils’ who have ‘replaced ideals’, pointing out that the party is run by ‘people who don’t matter’ but only by the ‘momentary interests of some people’.

These departures come shortly after the AUR branch in Piatra Neamț was evacuated, where the members of this organization, together with its leader, presented their resignations en masse just a few hours before George Simion arrived in the municipality for a meeting with the electorate and the leadership of the organization.

The AUR coordinator from Piatra Neamț criticized the central leadership of the party for imposing Marius Apopei as a candidate for mayor, he being a former PNL county councilor, and for the lack of consultation of the branch in making this decision. On February 19, the deputy from Vaslui, Enachi Raisa, announced her resignation from the party, without giving details about the reasons behind this decision.
