Serial mistakes made by a 21-year-old driver from Suceava county: he got behind the wheel drunk. He fatally hit a 26-year-old pedestrian with his car, then, scared of the consequences, he fled the scene of the accident and barricaded himself in the house.

For an hour and a half, the police waited at the gate for him to surrender. The seconds after the impact on the road were captured by a surveillance camera.

The accident happened at dawn on Wednesday, May 1. The victim, hit by a car on the county road between Moara and Frumoasa, died on the spot. Surveillance cameras in the area captured the aftermath of the fatal impact.

The driver fled the scene, and the police tracked him down in two hours. When they arrived at his home, 300 meters from the accident site, the man barricaded himself in the house.

Ionuț Epureanu, IPJ Suceava spokesperson: “When the police asked him to accompany them, the man refused to leave his private property and to allow the police access.”

It took an hour and a half of negotiations until the young man agreed to surrender to the police.

The driver was checked with the breathalyzer: he had an alcohol concentration of 0.71 per thousand, in the exhaled air. He is now still in police custody and could be detained. He is charged with manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was detained by the police for 24 hours.
