Top highlights of last night’s PBKS vs CSK match:

As they have throughout this season, Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the batting for Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The right-handed batting pair took their side to a decent start during the powerplay, scoring 55 runs in the first 6 overs. However, the dip in scoring rate after the powerplay added some additional pressure on Ajinkya Rahane and the CSK eventually lost their first wicket with Harpreet Brar dismissing the veteran batter on 29 (24).

Troubles seemed to be mounting for the CSK as they lost the in-form Shivam Dube on a golden duck the very next ball while Ravindra Jadeja (2 off 4 balls) was sent back to the dressing room by Liam Livingstone in the next over.

The scoring rate continued to drop for the CSK as the yellow team was only around the 100 run mark at the end of the 15th over, as skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to preserve the wickets while Sameer Rizvi struggled for runs on the other end. At the end, Kagiso Rabada ended Rizvi’s sluggish innings (21 off 23) by sending the right-hander packing in the 16th over of the game.

Later on, CSK finally managed to set up a total of 162/7 in their quota of 20 overs, thanks to the finishing touches provided by skipper Gaikwad and Moeen Ali.

In response, PBKS, once again without the services of Shikhar Dhawan, opted for the opening pair of Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow. However, Prabhsimran Singh was departed in the 3rd over of the game while trying to take the attack to the debutant Richard Gleeson, only to hand the ball straight into the hands of Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the 30 yard circle/

A couple of fiery 40s from Riley and Rossouw and Jonny Bairstow meant that the Punjab Kings managed to stay ahead of the required run rate all throughout the chase. Meanwhile, Shashank Singh and skipper Sam Curran made sure that there were no hiccups along the way and PBKS handed a comfortable 7 wicket defeat to the CSK with 13 balls to spare
