Mario Scurtu qualified for the Mathematics, Physics, Linguistics and Astrophysics Olympiads. In Astronomy and Astrophysics, he was the only participant from Gorj county. At the Mathematics Olympiad, the high school student won the bronze medal.
Mario also explained how the performance managed to qualify for four Olympiads: “We are talking about a very big passion for the exact sciences and a very strong aspiration for this dream, which is correlated with my passion for the Cosmos, so my passion was born for Physics and, subsequently, Mathematics as a tool of Physics, and then related disciplines, such as Linguistics, and more specialized, such as Astrophysics”. Mario is a multiple medalist at national Olympics and international competitions.
He is from Lelești commune and lives in the dormitory of the “Ecaterina Teodoroiu” National College, where he says he has all the conditions.
The high school student wants to study at a university in the US. “After I finish high school, I would like to continue my studies abroad, because I have a passion for Physics and Astrophysics. I see myself studying and practicing physics. I want to come to the United States of America with the help of a scholarship. I haven’t decided on a university yet, because it will also depend on the results in the coming years. I would like to work in the field of astrophysics or physics. Research in our country, in these fields, is not well funded. I don’t have many opportunities for development”, said Mario.
