“We are waiting for the results of the necropsy and the toxicological results to see exactly what was the cause of the death of the teenager who was only 17 years old. Even the family does not explain until this moment what could have happened to him. They claim that he had no other problems of known health, but 2 years ago he arrived at the Emergency Department of the Hospital in Pašcani, after consuming too much energy drinks”, reports Clara Mihociu, Observer reporter.

He died at 17, on his way home

“However, colleagues and those from the educational institution claim that on the day when everything happened, they would not have seen him consume such drinks. Instead, he would have consumed more juices. On the way home, where he was walking with his mother , after the meeting with the parents of the school where he studied, he was hurt right on the bus,” adds Clara Mihociu, Observer reporter.

“112 was called, an ambulance came, and the boy was resuscitated for an hour. Then, he was taken to Pašcani Hospital, where he was resuscitated for another 2 hours. He went into cardio-respiratory arrest several times and, finally, the death was declared. The doctors also notified the Police and a criminal case was opened in this case,” says Clara Mihociu, Observer reporter.

What the law enforcement officers say

On April 23 this year, Paşcani Municipality Police was informed by the representatives of a medical unit about the fact that a 17-year-old young man had died at that unit. From the investigations, it emerged that, on the same day, he had harmed while traveling with a means of public transport within the Pașcani municipality. A medical team went to the scene, and he was transported to the hospital. Later, following the resuscitation maneuvers, the medical staff confirmed the death of the young man. No visible traces of violence were identified on the person’s body. A forensic necropsy was ordered to determine the cause of death. In the case, a criminal file was drawn up under the aspect of committing the crime of culpable homicide.

Two months ago, a 13-year-old child from Bistrita-Năsăud died on the football field after a training session. He had drunk three energy drinks, he started having palpitations, after which his heart gave out. And last year, a 17-year-old teenager died at sea after taking several doses of energy.

Doctors say that excess taurine energy drinks overstimulate the nervous system and cause an increase in heart rate. Other symptoms are dizziness, anxiety or difficulty breathing.
