Effort to find missing metro-east woman is ‘urgent,’ sheriff’s department says

--

She left her home at about 11:30 am on Saturday, April 13, telling others she was taking her dog for a walk. But the dog was still home when friends checked in and Brittany Moeser has not been seen since.

Authorities in Washington County are “urgently seeking” help locating a woman reported missing Moeser, 36, who resides in Clarmin, an unincorporated area in the southwest corner of Washington County, between Marissa and Tilden off Illinois 13. She has unspecified medical conditions that ” greatly jeopardize her mental and physical well-being,” according to a release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Family members reported Moeser missing and indicated that she may be armed, “prompting responders to exercise extreme caution during the initial search efforts.”

“Despite extensive search operations involving numerous search and rescue agencies from St. Clair, Washington and Randolph counties, as well as the Eureka, Missouri Search and Rescue team, Brittany Moeser has not yet been located,” said Sheriff Schultze in the release.

Search efforts including Illinois State Police pilots and drone teams from Irvington and Coulterville covered more than 500 acres of land, according to the release.

Moeser is 5-feet, 7-inches tall, weighs about 128 pounds and has light red hair.

Schultze was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon to answer follow-up questions, a sheriff’s department dispatcher said.

“It is imperative to note that while Brittany has previously left home, she has always maintained contact with her family members,” the release stated. “However, her current disappearance is concerning due to her known medical conditions, which greatly jeopardize her mental and physical well-being.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at (618) 327-8264, extension 4.
