The Section for Judges in Disciplinary Matters of the Superior Council of the Magistracy is discussing, on Wednesday, the proposal of the Judicial Inspection to suspend from office, until the completion of the disciplinary procedures, Ioana Ancuța Popoviciu, the judge who resolves the case of Vlad Pascu, the drugged driver who caused a fatal accident last year two young people in the town of 2 Mai.

Last week, the Section approved the request to postpone the trial of the case, made by judge Ioana Ancuţa Popoviciu, in order to guarantee her right to defense.

On April 16, the Judicial Inspectorate announced that it had sent a proposal to the Superior Council of Magistracy to suspend judge Ioana Ancuța Popoviciu, from the Mangalia Court.

“Judicial inspectors assessed that the continued exercise of the function by the judge could affect the impartial conduct of disciplinary procedures and would be likely to seriously damage the prestige of the judiciary”, it was stated in a press release of the IJ.

The Judicial Inspection informed, in February, that it had notified ex officio and is checking the behavior of the magistrate in the courtroom.
