The team from Cluj is dueling with the team that won both direct matches of the current season.

After three consecutive failures, in the Superleague and the Romanian Cup, the University of Cluj plays at home against Politehnica Iași and hopes to end the negative streak. The coach of the “students” is waiting for a reaction from his students, in whose abilities he still believes.

“It’s a team that beat us twice. We’re concerned. We can’t put our heads down, we have to react. Let’s remember the matches we’ve played, we’ve never been dominated, with few exceptions. I haven’t lost the challenge, I’m a fighter and I’m very confident that I can score the team in this situation”, declared Ioan Ovidiu Sabău before the game.

Six successes, five draws and seven defeats is the record recorded by Cluj in the current championship at home. On the other hand, the people of Iași won three of the 18 trips, and five other times they ended in a draw.

The two teams met in the main domestic competition six times, five times the Moldovans prevailed, and one game ended with the victory of the “students”. This only success took place in 2014, when Nuno Viveiros and Nicolae Musat scored the goals that brought victory with 2-0.

In the current season, Cluj University was defeated in both regular season games by Poli Iasi. First, the game at the Cluj Arena, played on two different days due to the weather conditions, was won by the Moldovans 2-0, and the Iași players also prevailed in Copou, score 1-0.
