Outraged by the “crazy” prices in the city, Cluj residents go to neighboring counties for certain services: “I go to benefit from decent prices”

A strange phenomenon has gained momentum in Cluj-Napoca due to the extremely high prices for services. People say that when they have the opportunity, they prefer to go to a salon or maybe to a tailor, in the neighboring counties. The ever-increasing cost of living in the city has forced people to look for ingenious solutions to everyday problems.

“I recently discovered that several people in my life go to Alba Iulia to benefit from certain services at decent prices and to avoid some aberrations in Cluj (treatments at various salons, tailor, furniture, etc.). My question is, do you have any recommendations like this? A service that you do regularly in another city to avoid the craziness of Cluj? I’m interested in general, I’m not looking for anything specific”, posted a tweet on the Reddit social media platform.

The situation was also confirmed by others:

“I don’t know if necessarily regularly, but we do things like this with certain things, but the luck is that the husband’s parents live somewhere further towards Târgul Mureș, but it still takes about 1 hour and a half to get there and yes, there we take things to the tailor, we go to the vulcanization, we made furniture to order, we buy local products much cheaper than in Cluj, including from the confectionery. I can’t advise you on treatments and nails because I’ve given up semi-nails for at least two years, I don’t paint myself and I don’t go for treatments. Anyway, I still know people who, when they go to their parents/relatives, still do such errands”;

“I go to the mechanic in Dej. I give on the road, labor and parts less than I would give in Cluj just for labor”;

“I saw this thing at the tradesmen: A friend bought a 2-room apartment from the developer, it practically didn’t even have sockets. He talked to teams of craftsmen about how much it cost to make it, it was still an outlier. He contacted a team of craftsmen from Zalău and they lived in the new apartment and for the first days at my friend’s rent until they did the whole apartment (2-3 weeks). This is a rare case of such an investment, to outsource the services, but it exists”.
