Elizabeth’s favorite niece, Lady Louise Windsor, could be an asset to William

Although she is now very discreet and very selective with her public outings, the young woman could play a key role in the future reign of her cousin William.

It’s a tradition the Windsors never break: every year at Easter, the Royal Family attends a special service in Saint George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. That’s what happened on Sunday, March 31, although there were a few absences: Kate Middleton, who is fighting cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, together with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, have remained at their country residence in Norfolk. So has Lady Louise Windsor, who has been detained in Scotland, where she is in her second year at the University of St Andrews.

“Prince Edward’s eldest daughter was unable to attend the annual celebration on Easter Sunday, missing the tradition for the second year in a row due to her studies. But as well as positioning herself as the late Prince Philip’s favorite niece, she is following in the Prince’s footsteps of Wales, also enrolling at the University of St Andrews”assured the newspaper “Daily Mail”.

Journalist Richard Eden explained in his newsletter, Palace Confidential, that 20-year-old Lady Louise, beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth, could be a considerable asset to her cousin Prince William, when he will be called to lead England. The expert believes that Prince Edward and his wife, Duchess Sophie, are often overlooked by the general public because they attract too little media attention – which seems to suit them, as they can quietly honor their many royal engagements. “Another great service the couple could do for the country would be to encourage their children, Lady Louise and James, Earl of Wessex, to become active members of the Royal Family when the time is right.”he says.

“When Prince William becomes king, I hope he will follow the example of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and ask his cousins, including Lady Louise and James, to share royal duties with him.”, continues the journalist. According to Richard Eden, “a weakened monarchy” would not protect the institution “but would lead to its irrelevance and, ultimately, its disappearance”. “What better way to rely on one’s own forces than to rely on the energy of young people who have received, from birth, a sense of duty and commitment to the people?”he concludes.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond is not as sanguine about Lady Louise’s future within the monarchy… “I doubt Lady Louise will ever become a full-time member of the Royal Family, partly because I’m not sure she wants to, and partly because King Charles and Prince William know all too well that the monarchy is increasingly most responsible to taxpayers”, the royal expert told “OK! Magazine” UK at the beginning of March. For now, Louise and James Windsor have led a life away from royal duties and the limelight. Unlike their cousins, they were not given royal titles at birth. Lady Louise seems to be at peace with this decision of her parents, as she refused the royal title to which she was entitled when she turned 18.
