General strike at the Romanian Post Office. What are the demands of the employees and the latest offer of the management

Employees of the Post started a general strike on Monday in Bucharest and in several counties, their union claiming that from July 18,000 of the more than 21,000 employees will have the minimum wage in the economy and demanding a net 400 lei increase in wages and bonuses of loyalty.

The Postal Workers’ Union, which triggered the general strike, accuses the company of putting pressure on employees, sending employees from Bucharest to the logistics hub in Cluj to replace those who stopped work.

On Monday evening, following negotiations at the Ministry of Digitization, the management of the Post Office proposed that postal workers paid the minimum wage could benefit from a salary increase in two installments: on July 1 and September 1.

  • “According to the proposal, cumulatively, after the two installments, a Romanian Post employee would receive a net salary increase of 369 lei on average. Tomorrow morning, around 10:00 a.m., after all SLPR members have been consulted, the decision to continue or stop the strike will be announced. Until then, the general strike continues!”, announced the BNS.

More than 7,000 postal workers from 32 counties in the country were on a general strike on Monday, and the situation remained unchanged today, according to the representatives of the National Bank of Romania.
