In the debut match of the play-off in League 2 of football, Corvinul Hunedoara played, at home, with Gloria Buzau. The match at the “Michael Klein” stadium was played at night, in front of an impressive number of spectators.
Balanced match
If the Hunedorians do not have the right to promotion, those from Buzău can enter the SuperLigă and, on this basis, the match was a balanced one, in many moments a caution, perhaps excessive, could be noticed in both camps. So, the first shot on the space pthe gardens it came only after the 15th minute and belonged to Corvinista Neacșa, without problems, however, for Greab, the goalkeeper of the Buzoians. The visiting team defended well, Corvinul trying to score with shots from a distance, but the executions of Lupu, twice, and Lică, did not catch the space of the opposing goal. The only good opportunity of the first half came towards the end of it, in the 41st minute, when Crisan, sent towards his own goal, with his head, not very inspired, and only the last-minute intervention of the goalkeeper from Gloria making the scoreboard not changes in favor of Corvinu and, thus, entered the cabins with a white score.
The goals, in the second half
andspurred on by the almost 6,000 spectators, the Corvinists start the second half well and manage to open the scoring in the 49th minute, through Mitran, with a lob over Greab. The Buzoian camp reacts immediately, Andrei Prepelita making changes, which proved to be inspired, one of the newcomers on the field, Akhmatov, managing to equalize in the 72nd minute, with a sensational goal: he connected from 25 meters. The visiting team was more insistent at the end, but Chică-Roşa shot wide, and Blaga, the goalkeeper of Corvin, rejected the shot of Rădulescu, another player who entered the second half.
A game with pluses, but also with minuses
The match ended in a tie, score 1-1, and the head coach of Corvin, Florin Maxim, emphasized, at the end, the pluses and minuses of the game with Buzăul. “We started with a little trepidation, but even so we created 4-5 situations in the sides, where we knew we could have an advantage over them. Velisar and Iacob freed themselves from the opponent several times, but the crosses were not the best, at least in the first half. In the second act, we scored, but at the same time we somehow “managed” not to go out to meet Akhamtov, who we knew had a good shot from distance, and that’s how their goal came. We keep discussing this type of phases, we know that there is still work to be done and I hope that even after this match the boys will realize that they have to be a little more responsible. Physically, we look very good, we have good parameters, we also lead the positive transition, but we have to be more intelligent in some moments. I would have liked, again, to be a little more cynical after our goal, but that’s it. Overall, I’m satisfied with what I showed”stated Florin Maxim.

The match with Gloria Buzău was the last before the match with CFR Cluj, in the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup. The Hunedoara technician thanked the large audience present at the championship match and hopes that, in the Cup, he can make a pleasant surprise for the warm-hearted Hunedoara supporters. “I want to thank everyone present at the match, for the way they responded to our calls, for coming in large numbers to this match as well. We know that they are all waiting for the duel with CFR, but it was important to have them close to tonight’s game as well. This happened, we thank them once again and hope to bring them joy even after the Cup match. We have to reward their loyalty with our attitude, with our desire, and I can assure them, right now, that this will happen in the next match as well. What will happen, we will see”, said Florin Maxim. Corvinul is the only team from League 2 present in the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup. The match with CFR Cluj will be played in Hunedoara, on Tuesday, April 2, starting at 19:30.
