A fire occurred on Sunday in the town of Surduc, Iara commune. Dozens of hectares were engulfed in flames.

Cluj firefighters fought the fire for over 10 hours to save the forest in Iara. The damage to the environment is immense, but those who set fire to the pastures in the county do not stop. At the end of the intervention, the firefighters sent a message of thanks to those who contributed to limiting the damage caused by the fire.

“They are the ones who intervened, yesterday, for almost 10 hours, at a dry vegetation fire in the Iara commune! Tired, but happy that they were able to complete their mission! Colleagues from the Turda Detachment worked hard to extinguish the flames that affected an area of more than 40 hectares in the town of Surduc.

The fire started from the dry vegetation, and because of the strong wind it spread to the litter. There were no sources of water supply, access to some outbreaks was made with maximum difficulty, so that, at some point, the riot seemed to win. Even so, these people did not give up! Many of them came from home, determined to defend the forest at all costs.

Side by side with the firefighters worked representatives of the Forestry Department and numerous warm-hearted locals. They all made a colossal effort and left after midnight. In this way, we want to thank them! Gentlemen, we bow before you,” ISU Cluj said on its Facebook page.

We remind you that those who carry out sanitation works by using open fire, without ensuring legal measures, risk contraventional sanctions or, as the case may be, even criminal liability. Citizens are obliged to comply with the environmental protection rules that prohibit the burning of dry vegetation.

The use of open fire near agricultural land is a dangerous action, both for citizens and for the environment, because flames can spread in a very short time and can affect agricultural crops, houses, forest fund or, in the worst cases , they can also cause victims, continue to warn the Cluj firefighters.
