Apple has removed from the App Store three apps that advertised themselves as tools that could create nude images of anyone without their consent or knowledge.

Initially, Apple had accepted the three applications, which, on the face of it, did not mention these facilities when they applied to enter the App Store.

But according to a 404 Media investigation, the apps in question were being promoted on Facebook with ads claiming they could generate nudes without the subjects’ consent.

It is this discovery that, in violation of App Store rules, led to the removal of the three apps from the official iPhone content store.

Beyond the issue of the availability of these apps in the App Store, there is also the issue of the ads that Meta accepted without having a problem with the non-consensual generation of nudity that was being promoted through Facebook ads.
