Except for the newly launched Galaxy S24 phones, the One UI 6.1 firmware seems to have adverse effects on Samsung devices, with users noticing that the battery charging speed has decreased by as much as 40% compared to the results obtained before applying the new firmware.

Recently delivered to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 devices, the One UI 6.1 update is generally praised for improving the performance felt in normal use, with the devices’ interface generally looking more cursive than before. Also, the new functions based on Galaxy AI are appreciated by users, the experience provided is not inferior to what we have already seen on the recently launched Galaxy S24 phones. Samsung has even fixed the anti-burn-in protection, designed to prevent premature degradation of OLED screens.

But unfortunately not everything is perfect, more and more users notice that after updating to One UI 6.1, the waiting times for charging the battery have increased dramatically. For example, a Galaxy Fold 5 owner claims that despite using Samsung’s original 25W charger, the phone only charges at 15W. According to him, there are other Galaxy S23 and Fold 5 users who describe similar issues on social media. socialization. Also on the official Samsung forum, another user is sounding the alarm for owners of S23 Ultra phones, suggesting to avoid the new firmware if capping the charging speed at 15W is not what you want.

What is certain is that the issues are not widespread, with charging speed limitation appearing to be influenced by certain combinations of AC adapters and USB-C cables. For example, those using the official Samsung 45W or 65W adapter, together with an original 5A USB-C cable, do not seem to have problems with charging speed limitation. Another theory is that the limitation of the charging speed is correlated with the temperature of the battery, with Samsung adjusting the algorithms responsible for managing the fast charging function for tighter control of temperatures in order to extend the life of the batteries. Finally, we also hypothesize that the charging speed decreases as the battery percentage increases, users who notice the speed limitation at 15W actually have the phone at a charging level that is too high to apply the maximum power. But that doesn’t explain why the total load time is significantly longer than before.

Even though Samsung does not offer an official explanation for the issues reported by users, there is a good chance that the alleged bug that crept into the One UI 6.1 firmware will be fixed with one of the upcoming updates.
