Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant is set to receive a significant artificial intelligence (AI) upgrade, according to executive vice president Won-Joon Choi, writes Mashable.

The company plans to focus on “generative AI and LLM (large language model) technology” to improve Bixby’s capabilities, aiming to keep pace with competitors such as Siri.

While details on the timing of the update and which devices will benefit remain unclear, talk of improving Bixby has been ongoing since at least last year.

During the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event, company vice president Junho Park hinted at Samsung’s plans to “deeply develop” new AI features for its devices. Since its launch in 2017, Bixby has been integrated into various Galaxy devices, from flagships to models like the A series and Galaxy Flip.

While Bixby’s current functionality is limited, Samsung executives hope that with the upcoming AI boost, users will be able to perform more tasks with the voice assistant.
