Simona Halep will not receive a wildcard from the organizers of the tournament in Rome

Simona Halep misses another tournament she would have liked to participate in. It seems that the Romanian will not be present at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia.

Simona Halep will not be present at the tournament in Rome, scheduled between May 7 and 19. Even though it has been speculated that there are still two wildcards available for this competition, the situation is different in reality. According to iamsport.ro, it seems that most of the invitations were received by domestic players.

“All invitations for the Rome tournament have been granted”

“The policy of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation is to grant mainly wildcards for Italian players. Also for athletes who do not have a ranking to enter the main draw by right. All the invitations for the tournament in Rome were granted”, says Francesca Paoletti, press officer of the Italian Tennis Federation.

Even though there are still two wildcards left, it seems that they will be awarded to “players who will be finalists of a pre-qualifying tournament”.

“Wildcards are the ones announced. There are still two left, it’s true, but they will be awarded to players who will be finalists of a pre-qualifying tournament,” says Alessandro Mastroluca, FITP communication department.

Simona Halep really wanted to participate in this tournament, especially since Roland Garros starts on May 20. However, it remains to be seen whether she will be present there, as it is not certain whether the Romanian will be invited by the French.
