The Romanian secured a check for 11,190 dollars and 60 WTA points, going to play in the round of 16 against another American, Emma Navarro (seed number ten) or Katie Volynets.

In another match of the first round, the Romanian Gabriela Lee (former Talabă) was beaten by the American Ashlyn Krueger (19 years old, 73 WTA), with 7-6 (7/0), 6-3, after an hour and 43 minutes.

Lee (28 years old, 312 WTA), coming from the qualifications, won with 5,540 dollars and 26 points.

Ashlyn Krueger prevailed 6-2, 6-2 in their only previous meeting last year in the round of 16 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Also in the first round, the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto beat her the Romanian Ana Bogdan with 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8/6).
