​Returning to the field after the doping scandal, Simona Halep participated in the tournament in Miami and appears again in the WTA ranking. Romania has seven players in the world Top 200, and there have been no important changes at the top of the hierarchy.

Simona Halep, on 1143rd place in the new WTA ranking

Eliminated by Paula Badosa in the inaugural round of the competition in California (category WTA 1000), Halep received 10 points and is ranked 1143.

Sorana Cîrstea was unable to defend the points she won last year in Miami (when she reached the semi-finals). The athlete from Târgoviște was eliminated in the round of 16 by Danielle Collins (the American then won the tournament) and dropped five positions in the ranking (to 29th).

Important jumps were achieved by Irina Begu (finalist in Antalya – WTA 125) and Anca Todoni (eighth in San Luis Potosi – WTA 125).
