Russian politician Mikhail Deliaghin claims that Moscow, St. Petersburg and the border areas with Russia will be the main targets of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian media reports.

Deliaghin, a member of the State Duma, claims that Ukrainian forces have drawn up a plan for a decisive offensive against Russia. According to him, the Ukrainians will attack in three directions. “The main blows in the course of the Ukrainian offensive will be applied by the West not at the front, but behind the front lines, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, the capital cities of the region, near the front lines. We wait and remain calm,” he said.

The deputy does not rule out that before the start of the spring campaign, the Ukrainian command will try to mislead Russia and start imitating an offensive in a completely different direction. “Most likely, it will be Bryansk,” Deliaghin said. He recalled that the Nazis did the same thing when they attacked the USSR.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian counter-offensive also puts the Crimean authorities on alert, who announced, through the voice of the peninsula’s pro-Russian governor Sergei Aksionov, “that all measures have been taken to deal with” some attacks by Ukrainian forces, according to EFE, quoted by Agerpres .

“I believe that the decision to build defensive lines in Crimea and at the entrances to the peninsula was wise and well-founded,” Aksionov told a group of journalists, quoted by the Interfax agency. At the same time, he specified that this does not mean that the fortifications will be used for the purposes for which they were built.

“We had the duty to prepare for any development and that’s what we did,” emphasized the governor of the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014. Faced with statements regarding an imminent Ukrainian counteroffensive to recover Crimea, Aksionov assured that Russian forces are ready to repel it .

“We cannot underestimate the enemy, but we can say that we are prepared and that there will be no catastrophe,” he added. According to the governor, the Russian army “built a modern and staged defensive line” and “there are more than enough forces” to defend the peninsula. Aksionov’s statements come after the interim governor installed by Russia in the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, warned that Ukrainian troops were preparing to cross the Dnieper River and advance on its left bank.

“On the right bank of the Dnieper, the enemy units are maneuvering, changing their positions, moving troops and heavy weapons and preparing boats. There are indications of preparations to try to cross the Dnieper and the concealment of these preparations,” said Saldo, in statements for the official Russian agency RIA Novosti.
