I can’t say that I’m a fan of the design of OnePlus’ latest flagships, but I have to admit that they have their own look that’s easy to spot from a crowd. However, it seems that all the criticism regarding the way the camera module looks from the last two years has reached the ears of Oppo, and for the next model, the OnePlus 13, we can expect a change. We also have an image that shows us what the next OnePlus flagship could look like, and the result could be described as… mundane.

The round camera on the OnePlus 11 and 12 might disappear from the OnePlus 13

A sketch of the OnePlus 13 is circulating on Chinese social networks and shows us a new design, much more “proper” for the company’s next flagship. We are talking about a square camera module with four elements, three of them being cameras and the fourth a flash. In fact, this arrangement is not very different from the one we already know from the OnePlus 11 and 12, but the four elements are now enclosed in a square with rounded corners, something quite “standard” in the industry.

Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung and many other companies have used this design in the past, which will make it much harder to spot the OnePlus 13 from a lot of other phones with spotty camera modules. What doesn’t go away with this transition from a round to a square module is the Hasselblad branding. Oppo will reportedly extend its partnership with the Swedish camera brand, which has been owned for several years by Chinese drone and photo/video equipment maker DJI.

The OnePlus 13 is expected towards the end of this year, as one of the first phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Of course, this launch would take place exclusively in China, with the phone not coming to Europe until early next year. Other details about the phone’s internal hardware configuration are not known, but given that no new technologies have appeared in terms of RAM, storage or display, they could only receive incremental improvements.

OnePlus 13 without watermark

In the camera department and especially for video recording, the OnePlus 13 has a lot of room for improvement, so that’s where the biggest upgrades could appear.
