Which plane did Klaus Iohannis use to go to the USA

President Klaus Iohannis started his trip to the USA from Sibiu airport, as he did when he visited South Korea, according to Boarding Pass.

The plane took off from the Sibiu airport on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 14:10 local time.

The Boarding Pass wrote yesterday that the president will use for this trip a private Gulfstream G550 plane operated by Global Jet Luxemburg, the same one that Iohannis flew with in 2023 on official trips to the United Arab Emirates (March 2023) and on the “African tour” from Kenya, Tanzania, Cape Verde and Senegal (November 2023), but also in April 2024 in South Korea.

According to last year’s Boarding Pass post about the Gulfstream G550, the plane has the following features:

  • The Gulfstream G550 leased from Global Jet can carry a maximum of 13 passengers, and some of the plane’s seats can convert into two single beds and two other double beds.
  • The flight range of this plane is 12,500 kilometers, which is enough to fly from Sibiu non-stop to near Antarctica.

Klaus Iohannis will be awarded

On the occasion of his presence in the USA, Klaus Iohannis will receive on May 8 the “Distinguished International Leadership Award” from the Atlantic Council, an American think-tank, for “his remarkable career, for Romania’s exemplary leadership and for his role as a transatlantic leader and European”, according to a statement published on Tuesday on the organization’s website.

Among the laureates of previous editions are the former US presidents George W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George HW Bush and the then vice-president Joe Biden, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the current and former directors general of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva and Christine Lagarde.

The Atlantic Council, created in 1961, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization whose employees must maintain high standards of personal and professional integrity, openness and honesty in their communications and relationships with each other, with other organizations, with government officials, with the mass media and the public.

Since 1996, the Council has recognized international brand leaders through its annual awards gala.
