PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall, Gabriela Firea, commented on the speculation launched by Cristian Piedone, as if PSD and PNL would have a counter with Nicușor Dan, by throwing two candidates into the electoral competition, from each political formation. “I understand Piedone’s anger (…), he probably thought he was the only centre-left candidate. And we believed by nominating Dr. Cătălin Cîrstoiu that he would be able to accumulate PSD and PNL votes, but it turned out that the calculation in the party does not match the one in the field. No one has the votes in their pocket,” said Firea on the Digi24 show, recalling that the data from the polls are “volatile” and that if in the past Piedone was rated with 40% in the intention to vote, yesterday he appeared with 20% intention to vote.

The PSD candidate announced that the PSD has collected the necessary supporting signatures, again (after Cîrstoiu’s withdrawal) and that she will officially register her candidacy this weekend.

Asked if she will ask Cristian Piedone to withdraw his candidacy, Gabriela Firea said that she is not proud and would have no problem calling him. “But I feel that if I call him then he calls Antena to say that Gabi told me to withdraw and gives me two more slaps… of course, figuratively speaking. The PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall says that she does not want to offend Cristian Piedone, but she believes that she is a more suitable candidate for the Capital City Hall.

I didn’t know everything in the beginning either and I relied on the specialists, but now if I won I would go straight into the bread, because I would know what I have to do. I can do better because I’ve been there. And if I lost to the current mayor, it’s because I was given all kinds of labels (…)”.

Firea rejected Piedone’s accusations that PSD and PNL were actually favoring Nicușor Dan. She recalled that PSD was the biggest critic of Nicușor Dan in the last four years.
