Wilson also revealed that early in her career she made a conscious decision to make herself less attractive because she believed it would help her be more successful in comedy roles.

“I knew I wasn’t going to be taken as seriously as a Cate Blanchett or a Nicole Kidman, but I realized that the bigger you are, the more the audience laughs,” she said, stressing that “it was a decision really taken to looking ugly’ and that ‘it was part of my plan’.

Wilson reported that she decided in 2019 to live a healthier lifestyle after a fertility doctor told her she would have a better chance of conceiving through IVF if she lost weight.

But she says that not everyone supported her in her decision.

“People thought I was going to lose my career thing, playing the fat and funny character, and they wanted me to go on with that,” she told reporters at The Times.
