President Klaus Iohannis is to receive the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the Prime Ministers of Hungary – Viktor Orban, Belgium – Alexander De Croo and Croatia – Andrej Plenković at a meeting at the Cotroceni Palace on Wednesday, official sources told G4Media.
President Iohannis will organize an official dinner for the four foreign dignitaries.
The meeting takes place in the format of the Strategic Agenda, launched by Charles Michel, and looks at the EU’s priorities for the next institutional cycle.
It is the first time that a meeting is organized in this format with Hungary, Belgium and Croatia, plus the head of the European Council.
The visit takes place three months before Hungary takes over the rotating presidency of the European Union exactly during the period when the leadership positions of the major community institutions will be negotiated after the elections – the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Council, as well as the positions of commissioners.
The event is organized against the backdrop of Iohannis’ official announcement regarding his candidacy for NATO leadership. Hungary, Belgium and Croatia are NATO members, and unanimity is required for this appointment.
