The Romanian delegation finished the continental championships in Szeged with eight medals and ranked second in the medals ranking.

Romania won five medals on the last day of the European Rowing Championships in Hungary: three gold, one silver and one bronze.

Gold Medals:

  • 8+1 female: Magdalena Rusu, Roxana Anghel, Adriana Adam, Maria Lehaci, Mădălina Bereș, Amalia Bereș, Ioana Vrînceanu, Simona Radiș and Victoria Petreanu;
  • female doubles: Ioana Vrînceanu and Roxana Anghel;
  • men’s double rowing: Andrei Cornea and Marian Enache (the first gold medal obtained in this event).

Florin Arteni and Florin Lehaci became European vice-champions in men’s double sculls, and Olympic double rowing champions Simona Radiș and Ancuța Bodnar won the bronze medal.

On Saturday, on the first day of the finals, Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc won the continental title in the double rowing light category. The female crew of four, composed of Mădălina Bereș, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereș won the silver medal, and the male 8+1 boat finished in 3rd place, composed of: Mihăiță Țigănescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Florin Arteni, Mugurel Semciuc, Constantin Adam, Sergiu Bejan, Stefan Berariu, Florin Lehaci and Adrian Munteanu.

The 8 rankings on the podium place Romania in 2nd place in the medal hierarchy, after Great Britain.

11 Romanian crews, 44 athletes in total, are qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris.
