Sorin Grindeanu proposes that the Capital Belt be taken over by Bucharest City Hall. Belt, one of the biggest failures of governments in the last 34 years

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, proposed that the Capital Belt be taken over by Bucharest City Hall and specified that it has become a ring of the Capital, reports News.ro. The Capital belt is only partially modernized, on large portions of it driving at extremely low speeds due to the poor condition of the roadway.

Governments over the past 34 years have constantly promised to upgrade the critical road for heavy traffic, but the problem has never been fully resolved.

It is not clear how Bucharest City Hall could modernize this major infrastructure project, given that billions of lei are needed to solve it.

Sorin Grideanu was present, on Sunday, for the submission of Gabriela Firea’s candidacy for the position of mayor of the Capital.

“I came here today to show my support for Gabi, for Rares, for Daniel, for Robert, for Adrian and for the colleagues who are running both for the Local Councils and the General Council sectors. But I still want to convey something. I think the best example in these four years was the endless discussion with the subway between the Ministry of Transport and the General City Hall. In fact, there was no dialogue. I still invited dialogue and it was a war or a dialogue of the deaf. Nothing came from the other side. And you should know that who loses in the end is not the Minister of Transport or the general mayor, it is the citizens of Bucharest. If you want to discuss an integrated public transport plan in Bucharest, you cannot discuss without the metro. That is why I have invited dialogue in all these four years. Unfortunately, I didn’t have anyone to go with,” said Sorin Grindeanu.

He also made another proposal, that the Capital Belt pass under the administration of the Capital City Hall.

“Therefore, I think that another proposal, Gabi, which is one in favor of the people of Bucharest, is for the Belt to be taken over at this moment by, or in the future, once you come to the mayor’s office, under the administration of the General Mayor’s Office, because it has become , in fact, if you want, like an inner boulevard, a ring of Bucharest.

That would help just as much and for sure, we are trying in the next period, until September, to finish the A0, the southern version, which will take a lot of traffic out of Bucharest”, the Minister of Transport also declared.
